Sokol Auditorium was built in 1926 by Sokol Omaha, and opened in 1927. It is located in what was known as Little Bohemia, a predominately Czech neighborhood in South Omaha, Nebraska. The Auditorium was home to numerous cultural activities including Czech language classes, Polka dances, and gymnastics. In 1980 Sokol Omaha gymnasts Phil Cahoy and Jim Hartung were members of the USA Olympic Gymnastics team. Jim Hartung competed in the Olympics again in 1984. Sokol Omaha still continues to teach gymnastics classes today. In addition, Sokol Auditorium hosts numerous concerts, weddings, parties, cultural activities, and charitable events.
Sokol Underground is located underneath the Auditorium. Until the late 1970’s this space was a bowling alley. Since then the area has been used for a variety of activities. In 1996, Sokol Underground was established. Sokol Underground has hosted a variety of local, regional, and national music acts in addition to private parties and events.
